Henkell Freixenet has launched a spirits range under its I Heart wine brand name.

The I Heart Spirits range will initially be made up of two gins, including a 40%-abv expression

I Heart Spirits comprises a gin (40% abv) and a pink gin (37.5% abv), both of which will roll out in the UK from this month. A spokesperson for the company told just-drinks that a vodka could be added to the line-up at a later date.

"We have explored I Heart Vodka - when completing consumer research this did score well so there is a possibility that this is an option for the future," the spokesperson said. "As we are entering a new category, we felt we should start with gin as this is currently the most complex category and therefore perfect timing for I Heart to enter."

Henkell Freixenet said the new range aims to simplify the spirits category for consumers in the same way the I Heart Wine range does with wine. I Heart Wine was launched in 2011 and is a collection of some of the most popular wine varieties under one brand.

"The spirits category has now become as complex and crowded as wine once was," the group said. "We therefore believe this is the perfect moment to introduce I Heart Spirits. For all those consumers that simply want a straight-talking, delicious, no-nonsense gin and tonic, we are the perfect solution."

The I Heart portfolio is controlled by Henkell's UK wine unit, Copestick Murray.
