Heineken has launched an appeal in its legal row with arch-rival InBev over the two brewers' home brewing systems.

Last month, Heineken tasted defeat after its lawsuit, accusing InBev of infringing intellectual property rights, was dismissed by a court in The Hague. Heineken had claimed that InBev and its partner, the electronics giant Philips, had infringed patents on its BeerTender home brewing kit with the launch of their own dispenser, PerfectDraft.

However, a Heineken spokesperson confirmed today (3 January) that the company would launch an appeal against the ruling, which would be heard on 26 January. He refused to comment on the reasons for Heineken's stance.

InBev failed to return requests for comment as just-drinks went to press.
