Heineken has declined to comment on press reports in Russia that it is close to acquiring a brewer in the country.

According to financial daily Kommersant, yesterday (15 August), the Dutch brewer has agreed to buy Ivan Taranov for around US$560m.

Without naming sources, the paper said that the two companies will sign a draft contract at some point today.

When contacted by just-drinks, a Heineken spokesperson declined to comment on the report.

Kommersant also said that SUN Interbrew and SABMiller had expressed an interest in acquiring Taranov.
