Heineken has confirmed details of a proposed change of chairman.

The brewer announced earlier today (1 November) that Hans Wijers will be nominated as a board member next year, and should replace Kees van Lede as chairman of the supervisory board at the 2013 AGM. Wijers will be proposed at next year's AGM, on 19 April.

Born in the Netherlands in 1951, Wijers is set to retire as chairman and CEO of paints, coatings and chemicals producer Akzo Nobel in April. Before joining AkzoNobel, he served as Minister for Economic Affairs in the Dutch government.

To keep Heineken's board at ten members, Jan Michiel Hessels will step down in April next year, Heineken noted.
