Heineken has announced the launch of four new brands of lower alcohol beer in France.

The four new beers - Desperados Mas, which comes flavoured with lime tequila, a draught beer, Skylaker, green tea-flavoured Oko and Isla Verde, a lime passion lager - have a 3% alcohol content compared to an average of 4.5% for traditional beers.

Heineken France is backing up the launch of the new beers by attempting to revamp France's flagging cafes-hotels-restaurants (CHR) sector, which represents 30% of the country's beer sales, by offering training to owners and managers.

In March, Heineken announced it was axing just over 200 jobs in France by 2007 in order to adapt production levels to the steady decline in demand.
