Heineken's marketing director for Brazil is to take the lead on the Dutch brewer's namesake lager brand.

Heineken's Bram Westenbrink will lead the brewer's strategy on its namesake lager brand

Bram Westenbrink, who has spent the past three years in Brazil, was today named senior director for the global Heineken brand, based out of Amsterdam. Westenbrink replaces Gianluca Di Tondo, who left the group in March to become CMO for Italian pasta producer Barilla Group.

A spokesperson for Heineken told just-drinks Di Tondo went to Barilla to "take on a new challenge".

Westenbrink started his career at Heineken in 2003 and in 2010 became marketing director for the company's division in Hungary. He was appointed director of marketing for Heineken Netherlands three years later, moving to Brazil in 2017.

Today marks the day that Heineken CEO Jean-Francois van Boxmeer hands over to incoming chief executive Dolf van den Brink. Last month, Van Boxmeer revealed he is to join Vodafone as the UK-based telecommunications company's next chairman.
