Heineken UK has appointed a new marketing director, Iain Newell.  Newell joins Heineken from Interbrew and replaces Leslie Meredith, who moved back to her native USA at the end of January.

"We are delighted that Iain is joining us to build on the achievements we have made already and to help grow the Heineken brand in the UK," said Rob Marijnen, managing director, Heineken UK.  "We have established a strong platform for premium 5% Heineken in the UK with well-supported presence in all our sales channels.  It is an exciting time here for a global brand that has realistic ambitions to become the most valuable beer brand in the UK."

Newell was marketing controller for Interbrew's beer portfolio in the UK, having previously been responsible for the old Heineken Cold Filtered brand held under licence by Whitbread and later Interbrew.  Prior to Interbrew he worked for Unilever where he was senior brand manager for Hellmann's mayonnaise.  He is 33 and married with two children.
