John Nicolson brings much boardroom experience to AG Barr

The president of Heineken's Americas unit is joining the board of Scottish soft drinks maker AG Barr in a non-executive role.

John Nicolson will take over his new post in January, AG Barr said today (20 August). A Heineken spokesperson confirmed to just-drinks that Nicolson will continue in his current position in New York.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Warburton has stepped down from Barr's board. The company said he wants to cut back on outside responsibilities to focus on his role at British bread-maker Warburtons, where he is chairman.

Nicolson has been Heineken Americas president since 2008. He was an executive board member of Scottish & Newcastle until the company was bought by Heineken in 2008, and a director and chairman of Baltika Brewery.

He has also been deputy chairman of Chile’s Compania Cervecerias Unidas since 2009.

“I am delighted that John Nicolson will be joining our board,” said AG Barr chairman Ronnie Hanna. “He brings with him a wealth of highly relevant experience and I look forward to his involvement.”

Last month, Barr predicted a drop in first-half profits because of bad weather in the UK.

The company will announce its H1 results on 24 September.
