Heineken has continued its recent acquisition spree with the purchase of a controlling interest in Almaza, Lebanon's only brewer. The Dutch beer group will acquire a 69% stake in the Lebanese brewer to add to the 10% stake it already holds.

Almaza has a 61.5% share of the beer market in Lebanon with imported beers accounting for the rest of the market. Heineken, which has held its 10% stake in Almaza for 42 years, already accounts for a third of the imported beer sector.

No financial details of the deal were made public but Heineken said it would be funding the purchase from its available cash and that Almaza would make an immediate contribution to net profit.
