Halewood Wines & Spirits has acquired a holding in Irish whiskey producer West Cork Distillers, four months after buying a 50% holding in the firm's The Pogues brand.

West Cork Distillers launched The Pogues Irish whiskey a year ago

The company, formerly known as Halewood International, announced in March that it had bought half of The Pogues, The whiskey brand was launched in the UK by West Cork Distillers a year ago, with Halewood as its distributor.

Earlier today, Halewood said it has bought "a significant stake" in the whiskey producer, When contacted by just-drinks, however, a spokesperson for Halewood declined to detail the size of the transaction or its value.

Today's news signals Halewood's intention to expand West Cork Distillers' brands "throughout international markets", the company said.
