Halewood Wines & Spirits has launched two single malt Scotch whiskies under its Crabbie brand name. Crabbie 30-Year-Old & Crabbie Eight-Year-Old are the first whisky releases to bear the mark since the 1970s, Halewood said.

"The limited-release single malts represent the first steps towards the return of continuous single malt distilling in Edinburgh after almost a 100-year absence," the firm said. In a results announcement earlier this month, Halewood also said that it is buiding a John Crabbie distillery in Edinburgh.

The 30-Year-Old, which is 48.6% abv, is a single cask release, comprising 336 bottles. The Speyside whisky, which was aged in Sherry butts, carries an RRP of GBP500 (US$704).

The Eight-Year-Old is bottled at 46% abv and carries an RRP of GBP30.

The company has appointed David Brown as MD of John Crabbie & Co.
