Italian wine exports registered a slight rise in the first half of this year, according to recent figures. The Italian farmers' union Coldiretti said yesterday (28 September) that exports were up by 2% on the corresponding period last year.

While exports to the US fell by 1.4% in the period, wine exports to Russia leapt by 90% as did China's, by 69%. Exports to European Union countries rose slightly by 4%.

Coldiretti added that production in Italy this year will fall by 10% against 2004, although the quality will be very high.
