Gruppo Campari has launched its Wild Turkey Rare Breed brand in the UK

Gruppo Campari has launched its Wild Turkey Rare Breed whiskey in the UK, as it looks to capitalise on the country's increased interest in Bourbon.

Campari's UK unit said late last week that the barrel-proof whiskey would retail in the UK for GBP47.95 (US$58.40) per 70cl. The 56.4% abv expression, which is already available in other markets, is a blend of six-, eight- and 12-year-old whiskies.

"We've always liked to age our Bourbons for longer than many other distillers," said Wild Turkey master distiller Eddie Russell. "The Wild Turkey peppery, spicy characteristics burst out, but they're sweetly rounded from the years of maturation in brand new oak barrels."

The release of Rare Breed in the UK "comes at a time when bartenders and consumers are tuning into the qualities of Bourbon," the company said, highlighting classic cocktails as well as neat serves.

Last month, Campari launched a television advert in the US for its Wild Turkey Bourbon brand. The ad is directed by the actor Matthew McConaughey, who was confirmed by Campari earlier this year as Wild Turkey's creative director.
