The privately-owned Port and wine group confirmed today the acquisition of Quinta da Boavista, a Douro vineyard founded in 1756. The purchase, from Lima Smith, comprises an 80-hectare estate that includes 36 hectares of vines, along with the Boa-Vista and Quinta da Boavista still wine brands.

Financial details were not disclosed.

"With a historic legacy in the Douro and following the strategy of consolidating still wines, we believe that the acquisition of Quinta da Boavista will decisively strengthen our portfolio of DOC wines, particularly in the premium segment," said group CEO Sergio Marly. "Quinta da Boavista has been very successful in recent years in the development of internationally-recognised wines and our expectation is to continue to produce great wines here."

Boavista joins Quinta do Bairro, Quinta de São Luiz and Quinta do Arnozelo on Sogevinus' list of wine assets.
