The UK brewer and pub operator Greene King has issued an upbeat trading statement for the 12 weeks to July 24. The Suffolk-based company said that trading in the period had been positive and in line with expectations, with comparable sales in its managed pubs growing by 1.2%.

Greene King said sales during the period were strong and margins had remained robust in each of its three trading divisions.

The company, which operates more than 2,300 pubs and brews beers such as Greene King IPA, Abbot Ale and Old Speckled Hen beers, said total beer sales during the 12-week period had risen by 6% in volume terms, with volume sales of Greene King IPA up by 8%.
