The Finnish government is designing an alcohol policy to reduce consumption in the country, the local press said today. With import restrictions on alcohol being removed and alcohol duty being lowered within the next week, the Government is looking to introduce an alcohol policy for the first time.

According to Finnish online newsletter Internytt, the Government is concerned about the level of alcohol consumption by Finnish citizens. It also wants to reduce the amount of alcohol consumed by children and young people, while achieving a reduction in alcohol-related damage, the newsletter said.
