Gordon & MacPhail has unveiled the first in a new range of "ultra-rare" Scotch whiskies.

Gordon & MacPhail's Mr George Legacy 1953 from Glen Grant Distillery is a single-cask expression that has been aged in a first-fill Sherry butt since 1953. The first of the the 355 units was bottled in January at 59.4% abv.

The whisky is available via the Gordon & MacPhail retail store in Elgin and through selected online e-tailers.

The release marks the launch of the Legacy series - a new annual range from Gordon & MacPhail that celebrates the Scotch whisky distiller and independent bottler's 125th anniversary this year. The expression was chosen to lead the range because of owner George Urquhart's affinity with the Glen Grant distillery, which has been owned by Campari Group since 2005.

Last month, The Loch Lomond Group unveiled the Loch Lomond 45 Year Old ultra-premium Scotch whisky expression.
