David King joins Gordon & MacPhail from Anchor Distilling

Independent Scotch whisky distiller Gordon & MacPhail has appointed the former president of San Francisco's Anchor Distilling as international sales director.

David King, who also spent 11 years at the UK's Berry Bros & Rudd, will help Gordon & MacPhail build whisky sales globally, with a focus on Benromach Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, the company said today. "David has the perfect credentials for the task, combining extensive knowledge of Scotch whisky with experience of working in some of our key markets, including the US," Gordon & MacPhail's COO, Ewen Mackintosh, said.

King joins Gordon & MacPhail from Anchor Distilling, where was president from 2010. He was sales & marketing director at Berry Bros from 1999 and prior to that he worked for Edrington.

A spokesperson for Gordon & MacPhail told just-drinks that King's new post is the first time the company's global sales & marketing have been handled by a dedicated board director. Previously, the role was part of Mackintosh's responsibilities.

The company has recently expanded its Benromach portfolio, releasing a 42-year-old iteration last month. Earlier this year, the company launched Benromach 35 Years Old.
