US beer producer Golden West Brewing Co. has announced plans to launch an organic beer brand in March through its newly formed subsidiary, Blue Marble Brewing.

The organic offering, to be called Blue Marble Organic Pilsner, is described by Golden West president Mark Simpson as a "light-bodied, all-malt, Pilsner-style beer with a crisp European hop finish".

The company is planning a nationwide launch for its new organic brew which it says will complement its Butte Creek brand of ales and lagers. Blue Marble Organic Pilsner has been designed to draw mainstream beer drinkers into the craft sector, the company added.

"We are in negotiations with a key nationwide retailer to create a nationwide platform for the selling and marketing of this exciting new brand," Simpson said. "We have started full-scale production at our Chico, California, brewery and are working with an East Coast brewing partner to maximise product quality freshness on both coasts. The expanded production demands of this brand have allowed us to utilise excess capacity and will necessitate expansion at our Chico facility."
