E&J Gallo is to extend its Turning Leaf range in 2005. The Californian winemaker has revealed plans to launch two new varietals, Syrah Rosé and Pinot Grigio. With both varietals being available from next month at a RRP £5.99, the Syrah Rosé introduction marks Gallo's debut in the blush category at this price point.

The addition of a Syrah Rosé and a Pinot Grigio, brings the total Turning Leaf range to nine. It currently comprises Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Zinfandel.

In a statement, Glenn Caton, marketing director for Western Europe said: "The rigorous quality drive at the winery, plus the raft of new initiatives in 2004, including new packaging, labelling and advertising, have produced very strong sales. What's more there have been increases in brand awareness, trial and most importantly regular purchase.

"With the introduction of a further two SKU's this year, the brand is well-placed to build on its 2004 growth and firmly establish itself in the minds of consumers as the leading premium brand in the £5-£7 price sector."
