Australian drinks combine Foster's Group has announced that Ian Johnston is to join its board of directors as an independent director, with effect from 1 September 2007.

Johnston has extensive experience in the international food and beverage industry, having held numerous management posts with Cadbury Schweppes. Since leaving Cadbury Schweppes in 2000, he has worked as an advisor to a broad range of private companies.

"On behalf of shareholders I am very pleased to welcome Ian to the Foster's board", said Foster's chairman, Frank Swan. "After a distinguished career in the international food and beverage sector, he brings a valuable global industry perspective to the Foster's board."

Last month, Foster's Group announced that chief marketing officer Rick Scully would retire from the company with effect from 30 June 2007. Scully had been with Foster's and its affiliated businesses for 39 years.

Following Scully's departure, responsibility for global brand strategy will be split between the regional managing directors.
