Fortune Brands' acquisition of the Canadian Club whisky brand has been approved by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The Canadian Club deal is part of an agreement between Pernod Ricard and Fortune which will see the latter acquire a number of brands and companies for a total of US$5.3bn, on completion of Pernod's takeover of Allied Domecq.

The FTC is continuing its review into Fortune's acquisition of Maker's Mark, the only brand in the package it is planning to acquire from Pernod Ricard still to be awaiting FTC approval.

Pernod's acquisition of Allied Domecq is expected to go through by the end of this month.
