Hess Family Estates has appointed a former Treasury Wine Estates executive as chief operating officer for its Californian winery, The Hess Collection.
John Grant, formerly TWE’s senior marketing VP for the Americas, will be responsible for sales, marketing and business operations at The Hess Collection’s base in Mount Veeder, Napa Valley. He will report in to Timothy Persson, the unit’s chairman & CEO.
Grant, who spent four years at TWE before leaving in March this year, said: “This is an exceptional opportunity which reinforces my view that the increasing pace and focus of the wine industry is better suited for nimble, privately held organisations.”
Grant is also a former president of Constellation Wines Australia and held the same position at Kendall Jackson Wine Estates.
Hess Family Estates produces “terroir-driven” wines, including the wines of The Hess Collection on Mount Veeder in the Napa Valley; Artezin from California’s North Coast; MacPhail Family Wines, with Pinot Noir expressions from California; Peter Lehmann wines from Australia’s Barossa Valley; Colomé and Amalaya from Salta, Argentina, and Glen Carlou from Paarl, South Africa.
