Barr is strengthening its board with its first female appointment

AG Barr has appointed a former SABMiller executive to its board of directors.

Pam Powell, 50, will join the Irn-Bru producer as an independent non-executive director from 1 November, the company announced today (9 October). Powell, a UK-based American who is also a non-executive director at Premier Foods, will be Barr's first female director.

She previously spent nine years working for SABMiller, latterly as group strategy & innovation director from 2008 to 2011.

Ronnie Hanna, Barr's chairman said: “She (Powell) brings with her an impressive track record in brand strategy and innovation, as well as considerable sector specific knowledge, all of which will be of great benefit to AG Barr at this stage in the group’s development.”

Last month, Barr reported a drop in first-half net profits after it revealed its failed merger with rival Britvic cost GBP4.9m (US$7.9m). However, sales in the six months to the end of July rose by 5.8% to GBP128.7m.
