The UK-headquartered group announced today that Bagley, Diageo's former head of Global Travel Retail, will assume the role of MD for Asia Pacific on 14 May. When contacted by just-drinks, a spokesperson for William Grant confirmed that Thomson will retire, having spent six years in the role.

Prior to joining William Grant in 2012, Thomson also spent time with Bacardi and Diageo in Asia. He will remain with William Grant until the end of this year, the spokesperson said.

Bagley quit Diageo in mid-2016 when the group split its Global Travel & Middle East unit. Bagley chose at the time to remain in Singapore, where he will be based with William Grant.

"This is an important role within our business in one of our key regions," said William Grant CEO Simon Hunt. "Doug brings a wealth of leadership experience from FMCG companies and industry organisations with strong track records in Asia. I am delighted to welcome him to our business and executive board as we continue to go from strength to strength in the Asia Pacific region."

Last week, another former Diageo exec made the move to William Grant. Matthew Williams is now regional director for Asia Pacific GTR.
