Philip Bowman, Allied Domecq's last chief executive, has taken a position with Scottish & Newcastle. Bowman, 53, becomes a non-executive director at the UK brewer, S&N said today (10 January).

Sir Brian Stewart, S&N's chairman, said: "Philip Bowman brings with him a wealth of international experience in the drinks industry, together with an intimate knowledge of both the brewing and pubs business.

"I know that he will make a strong contribution to the S&N team and I look forward to working with him."

Bowman oversaw the sale of Allied Domecq to Pernod Ricard last year for GBP7.5bn (US$13.26bn).

From 1985 to 1995 Bowman was with Bass/Six Continents, including chief financial officer, then chairman and chief executive of Bass Taverns.
