Foley Family Wines has upped its presence in California's winelands with the purchase of a majority stake in Lancaster Estate.

The company, which secured an 80% holding in The New Zealand Wine Company in August, said earlier today (14 November) that it has bought the Lancaster Estate winery, vineyards, residences, the Lancaster and Roth labels and inventory. Financial details, and the specific size of stake, were not disclosed.

Lancaster Estate is located in Sonoma county's Alexander Valley and hosts almost 50 acres of vineyards of grapes used to produce Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varieties.

“We believe the winery's quality reputation and positioning fits perfectly within the Foley Family Wines portfolio,” said Foley's owner, Bill Foley.

Lancaster Estate's founder, Ted Simpkins, will remain as an owner.

Today's announcement follows Foley acquisition of Napa Valley's Sawyer Cellars – including 40 acres of vineyards – for an undisclosed sum, in June.
