Remy Cointreau fiscal-2018 - results data

A bumper final quarter has sped up Remy Cointreau's slowing growth earlier this year, resulting in sales from fiscal-2018 rising by just over 7%.

Having reported in January a 5.5% sales lift in the first nine months of its fiscal year, the group said today that the 12.8% jump in the three months to the end of March meant sales in the 12-month period came in at EUR1.17bn (US$1.45bn). Remy today credited the fourth-quarter with delivering "excellent momentum".

The House of Remy Martin division, effectively the company's Cognac business, saw its sales growth return to double-digits after Q3s disappointing rise of only 5.5%. The 18.3% boost in Cognac sales resulted in full-year growth from the unit of 13.2%.

Over at the liqueurs & spirits reporting unit, which includes the likes of Cointreau and Mount Gay rum, the hangover from the deconsolidation of Passoa into a JV with Lucas Bols in late-2016 meant like-for-like sales dipped in the 12 months by 1%. Stripping out the change, and liqueurs & spirits was up by 4%.

"Asia-Pacific posted remarkable growth," Remy said today. "The improved momentum in the region was led by Greater China, Singapore, Japan and the new subsidiary in Malaysia. The Americas region continued to deliver solid growth, propelled by the US and Canada.

"Sales trends in the Europe, Middle East & Africa region, although adversely affected by the deconsolidation of Passoa, benefited from strong momentum in Russia, Central Europe and the UK."

Profit details will be announced by Remy on 7 June.
