Jim Allen, who retired in January, was celebrated by the distributor at an event in Los Angeles earlier this week. Allen had worked for Southern for 35 years and held roles including general manager for California and Colorado, as well as executive VP of the firm's New York division.

He returned to California to assume the senior VP position for Fine Wines in 2011.

“Time and again, Jim has answered our call to serve in one key market after another,” said Southern's president & COO, Wayne Chaplin. “Jim has mentored, coached and inspired literally thousands of Southern sales professionals. He will be very much missed, but he will be remembered for his many contributions here at Southern for years to come.”

Details of who will replace Allen were not immediately available.

In August last year, Southern upped its presence in the state of Utah through the purchase of Phoenix Wine & Spirits.
