Origin Wine is introducing a new range of Fairtrade Chilean wines to the UK market.

The South African company said today (18 July) that Fairhills Chile will launch in the country with the 2008 vintage and will comprise dual varietals, a Rosé and single varietals of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere.

Origin said it is currently in the process of obtaining Fairtrade accreditation for Vina Santa Irene, in the Curico Valley, and will be developing links with producers in other regions to drive the brand.

Bernard Fontannaz, CEO of Origin, said: "The 2008 vintage will be the first for Fairhills Chile. The initial objectives of the project are to incorporate a daycare facility, and a secure environment for children, together with an improvement in the drinking water facilities and heating systems for households."

Fairhills wines from Chile are priced at around GBP5 (US$9.97) for the dual varietals and Rosé and GBP6 for single varietals of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere.
