Bacardi is cutting an unspecified number of jobs from its London-based Global Brands division.

Bacardi announced cuts in North America last week

The company, which announced last week that it will lay off about 10% of its staff in North America, has confirmed to just-drinks that the latest job losses come as it hands off some of Bacardi Global Brands' functions to its brand teams.

Some staff have already left the unit and some will leave "in the coming months", a spokesperson said late last week. The spokesperson declined to give details on the number of staff affected, but said it was "not a large number".

Global Brands handles Bacardi's portfolio of international spirits brands.

"We are still working with employees whose roles have been impacted in order to identify potential opportunities within the company," the spokesperson said. "Where possible, we delayed the recruitment of open roles and eliminated open positions, so the number of displaced people was minimised."

Global Brands' digital, innovation, experiential functions are to merge with Bacardi's brand teams, but the responsibilities of the global marketing team will remain the same.

The new structure "allows for greater alignment and faster decision-making and execution", the spokesperson added.
