E&J Gallo Winery has lined up the acquisition of multi-nation wine brand Locations.

The privately-owned US company said yesterday that the purchase of Locations, for an undisclosed sum, will complete tomorrow. The brand is being bought from Shooting Gallery Wines, a JV comprising Locations founder Dave Phinney and Codorníu's Aveníu Brands subsidiary.

Set up in 2008, the brand is centred around the idea of "creating a wine that represented the very best aspects of a location", Gallo said. Based on blending wines across appellations, the brand's portfolio includes wines from France, Spain, Italy, Argentina, California, New Zealand, Oregon, Washington, Portugal, Corsica and Texas.

"We are excited to continue working with the talented and creative Dave Phinney, who will stay on as winemaker for Locations," said Roger Nabedian, senior VP & GM of Gallo's Premium Wine Division. "This purchase supports Gallo's mission to participate and excel in all segments of the wine market."

Earlier this year, Gallo detailed plans to release around a dozen higher-end wine expressions from its California vineyards, in an effort to promote the diversity of the region to the European market.
