E&J Gallo also owns spirits brands New Amsterdam and E&J brandy

E&J Gallo has confirmed the addition of Germain-Robin to its brandy portfolio.

The California-headquartered wine and spirits group said late yesterday that it has acquired Germain-Robin, also based in the US state, from co-founders Ansley Coale and Hubert Germain-Robin. Financial details behind the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquired package comprises the Germain-Robin brand, the inventory of aged and aging brandies and "all finished goods". Coale and Joseph Corley, Germain-Robin's distiller and cellarmaster, will also move across with the brand.

Germain-Robin joins the E&J brand in Gallo's brandy stable. The group also owns the New Amsterdam vodka and gin marques.

"We are pleased to continue delivering remarkable and unique California brandies that will appeal to whiskey and Bourbon drinkers and other connoisseurs of brown spirits around the world," said Ernest Gallo, GM of the company's spirits operations.

Earlier this year, Gallo released details of a marketing activation in the US for New Amsterdam vodka. A TV ad ran during June on sports channel ESPN.
