The Edrington Group has launched a new blended grain whisky line extension to The Famous Grouse brand.

The Snow Grouse has been created by a newly patented chill filtration process in order to be served straight from the freezer. It is described as having a delicate flavour and thickish consistency. The new whisky is named after the Scottish game bird, the snow grouse or ptarmigan.

The Snow Grouse will be distributed by Maxxium Global Travel Retail as a travel-retail exclusive for six months before a wider international roll out.

It has a recommended retail price of EUR19.99 (US$31.64) per 1-litre bottle - about 25% higher than the standard The Famous Grouse.

The Edrington Group global travel retail manager Keith Bonnington said: "We feel the Snow Grouse will appeal not only to Scotch whisky drinkers looking for something different, but also to whisky rejecters, who would normally stick to white spirits."
