Tellis Baroutsis will lead the new unit

Edrington has revealed plans to create a global Travel Retail unit as it continues to up control over its spirits brands.

The Famous Grouse-owner, which in May officially launched a US in-house distribution team, said this week the new unit will take over its existing Travel Retail businesses in Asia, Europe and the Americas. It will be based in Singapore and begin trading on 1 October.

Tellis Baroutsis, Edrington's MD for North & Central Europe and European Travel Retail, will move to Singapore from Stockholm to lead the business.

Scott McCroskie, Edrington's commercial director, said: “The new global Travel Retail unit will increase our focus on this important high growth channel. Locating the unit in Singapore and appointing a proven business leader like Tellis Baroutsis demonstrates our confidence in the long term potential of our brands and the Travel Retail sector.”

It has been a busy 12 months for Edrington, which also owns The Macallan Scotch whisky and Brugal rum. As well as launching the US team, the company has created similar units covering South-East Asia, the Middle East, the Gulf and North Africa.

Late last year, Edrington also announced plans to increase capacity at The Macallan distillery in Speyside, Scotland.
