The European Commission has announced that it will spend €855,000 on promoting the sale of Portuguese wine in US, Canada, Switzerland, Norway, China and Japan.

The money will be combined with money from the Portuguese government and private sources, to create a total promotional budget of €1.7m, to be spent over the next three years.

The programme was proposed by Portugal's G7-Grupo do Sete, which allies seven of Portugal's larger wine companies.

This money will be spent on public relations, promotional or publicity measures, highlighting the advantages of Portuguese wine, especially as regards their quality, and maybe, environment-friendliness.
