Portland-based Eastside Distilling has acquired local bottler MotherLode Craft Distilling.

Eastside Distilling will move a portion of its operations to newly-acquired MotherLode

Eastside said late last week that it intends to relocate "much of its own operations" to MotherLode's Portland facility as well as expand manufacturing resources. The purchase has cost Eastside US$377,000, for which the company issued 260,000 common shares.

"The company believes the MotherLode operations will be immediately accretive to earnings," Eastside said. "The company further believes that cost reductions associated with the acquisition and relocation will exceed US$200,000 per annum."

According to Eastside, MotherLode provides bottling facilities and production support to craft distilleries, as well as private-label services for on- and off-premise businesses.

"The MotherLode acquisition is expected to be accretive on many levels, with a payback targeted to occur within one year to 18 months," said Eastside's executive chairman Grover Wickersham. "As other opportunities to grow by acquisition arise, we will continue to take advantage of being a public company. We can bring entrepreneurial businesses like MotherLode into our organisation while offering their investors the liquidity of publicly-traded stock."

MotherLode founder Allen Barteld will work for Eastside on a long-term contract, the firm said.

Last December, Eastside received clearance from the Chinese Government to export its brands to China. Eastside's portfolio includes Burnside Bourbon, Barrel Hitch American Whiskey and Portland Potato Vodka.
