Duvel Moortgat NV has seen its first-half net profit jump 8.2% to €4.43m, despite a slow start to the year.

Consolidated turnover at the Dutch brewer rose 7.7% to €32m, lead by the company's main beer brands.  Duvel's turnover rises globally by 4%. The 3 Maredsous abbey beers increase by 18%. Vedett almost doubled its turnover.

Turnover of the Czech Bernard beers increased by 31% and that of the Ommegang products in the US by 23%.

The company said that it recovered from a slower start of sales during the first quarter, and was therefore able to meet predicted growth during the first half year. The company therefore estimates that it will realize its predicted turnover and profit growth for 2005 as a whole.
