José Gutiérrez has joined Dr Pepper Snapple Group's ten-person board

Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPSG) has appointed a leading telecommunications executive to its board of directors.

The soft drinks maker yesterday said AT&T's José Gutiérrez joins the ten-person board, highlighting his "passion for customer service". "He is a great fit for the board of a company like ours where customer centricity is a core value," DPSG said.

Gutiérrez, 55, has been senior executive VP & chief of staff to the chairman & CEO of AT&T since last year. Previously, he held several senior executive positions at AT&T, including president & CEO of Southwestern Bell (AT&T Southwest), president of AT&T Global Enterprise Solutions, president of AT&T Wholesale & Access Solutions, president & CEO of AT&T Advertising Solutions and president of Industry Markets.

He also serves on the board of directors at restaurant group Denny's Corp.

DPSG has successfully diversified its portfolio away from carbonated soft drinks in the past few years. In the company's latest six-month results, released in July, growth in non-CSDs outpaced declines for its core CSD brands including Dr Pepper and 7UP.
