Distell intends launching South Africa's first 250ml wine six-pack and has one eye on the international market if the launch succeeds.

The 2006 Two Oceans Sauvignon Blanc will be sold in selected stores in Gauteng province during the Southern Hemisphere spring and if successful will go national before a red variety is also introduced. The six-pack is expected to retail at about ZAR55 (US$7.63).

The company then intends looking at the broader foreign markets where the wine six-pack concept is growing rapidly.

Internationally, the Two Oceans brand has grown by 24% for the 12 months to May 2006, according to Distell. Canada, the UK, Sweden, Denmark and Ireland feature as the brand's biggest markets.
