Distell has updated the packaging for its Two Oceans wine brand in the UK.

The South African wine producer said yesterday (28 November) that the revamp for the brand, which includes Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot and Shiraz Rosé, will be eco-friendly and 100% recyclable. The Tetra Prisma pack is a first for the UK, Distell claimed, with the resealable 1-litre pack retailing at the same price as the 75cl bottle.

"We have been following the success of this format in South Africa with four of our brands, and felt it was the right time to introduce it to the UK with Two Oceans," said Distell Europe's managing director, Gary Greenfield.

The shape of the packaging will result in lower transport costs, Distell claims, with one truck needed to carry the same number of packs transported by 25 trucks of the glass equivalent.

"As South Africa's largest drinks company, we at Distell are committed to doing what we can in helping the environment as we know it is something which our customers are concerned with too," Greenfield added.

Two Oceans is currently listed in Somerfield, Budgens, Spar and Londis through WaverleyTBS.
