South African drinks firm Distell has named Luke Maga as head of global Travel Retail.

Distell said its Asia Pacific division was the company's top Travel Retail performer under Maga

A spokesperson told just-drinks that Maga replaces Richard Trimby, who has left the company to "pursue other career opportunities". Maga will take on the new role immediately.

Maga has been promoted from the role of general manager, Asia-Pacific duty free. He will be replaced in the GM role by Harry Kartasis, who was previously the Moët Hennessy global account director for duty-free retailer DFS.

Distell said today that its Asia Pacific division had become the company's top Travel Retail performer under Maga.

"With Distell's focused investment in its prestige single malt, Cognac, liqueur and wine brands in the region, Maga leaves Kartasis to capitalise on the recent rebound of well-priced luxury goods across China and several other Asian countries," the company said. "Maga also confirms that Distell Travel Retail sales in Brazil and Argentina are showing encouraging signs and picking up in many of the commodity-based economies in Africa."

Earlier this year, Distell reported a strong H1 performance in its home South African market.
