Johnnie Walker has strengthened its position as the biggest-selling spirits brand in the travel retail channel, ahead of next week's TFWA exhibition in Cannes.

A report from The IWSR, released yesterday (12 September), has found that the Diageo-owned Scotch whisky brand heads the ranking in the top 100 spirits brands in travel retail, as well as IWSR's top 25 growth brands list. Sales of Johnnie Walker in travel retail last year increased by almost 20% to total 1.8m nine-litre cases in the channel. Pernod's Absolut vodka brand delivered the same growth rate, to come in at number two in the top 100 brands list, delivering volumes of just over 1m cases.

Beam Inc's Courvoisier Cognac brand was the star performer in 2010, with volumes leaping by 20% on a year earlier, to 231,600 cases. Both Courvoisier and Moet Hennessy's rival namesake Cognac added almost 90,000 cases each in 2010.

Top growth brands in travel retail 2010

Pernod Ricard supplies seven of the top 25 growth brands, Diageo and Beam Inc four each, Bacardi-Martini three, Brown-Forman two, and LVMH and William Grant & Sons one apiece. Belvédère’s Danzka and Roust’s Russian Standard also feature.
