Diageo's Reserve division has released details of a new range of blended Scotch whiskies under the Johnnie Walker umbrella, all of which will include liquid from at least one distillery each that is no longer in operation. The first in the series, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare, is a blend of eight whiskies, three of which hail from "ghost" distilleries - Cambus, Pittyvaich and Brora.

The other five are from Royal Lochnagar, Clynelish, Glenkinchie, Glenlossie and Cameronbridge.

The limited run is available from this week, although details were not disclosed about the number of units set to be released.

When contacted by just-drinks, a spokesperson for Diageo declined both to give details on the number of expressions lined up to join the range, and to provide information on the next expression.

Last month, Diageo announced a near-US$50m investment in reopening both Brora, on the north-east coast of Scotland, and Islay-based Port Ellen.
