Diageo has released a Canadian whisky under its Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Co brand.

The company said that Entrapment, which is the first Canadian whisky in the Orphan Barrel series, is made from part of a batch of Crown Royal Fine De Luxe blend from 1992 that was left behind.

The whisky was aged for 25 years before being bottled in Tullahoma, Tennessee. The mash bill for Entrapment is 97% corn and 3% malted barley.

"Both Crown Royal's Canadian history and Orphan Barrel Whiskey's legacy of rare and notable releases are quite special," said Diageo North American whiskey educator, Doug Kragel. "Whiskey adorers can now taste the complexity of a 25-year-old Canadian whisky in an Orphan Barrel offering."

Diageo launched the Orphan Barrel initiative in 2014. The unit in the US was set up to release high-end "rare" American whiskies. The initial plan was to release Bourbons.

The Orphan Barrel releases have included Barterhouse Kentucky Bourbon (20-year-old), Old Blowhard Kentucky Bourbon (26-year-old) and Rhetoric Kentucky Bourbon (20-year-old, 21-year-old, 22-year-old and 23-year-old).
