Diageo has launched a rugby-themed ad campaign for Guinness ahead of the Rugby World Cup.

The company, which is not a sponsor of the tournament that is due to kick off in England and Wales this month, has released two commercials highlighting the life stories of two rugby stars. The first tells the obstacles faced by former Wales Captain Gareth Thomas, who came out as gay in 2009, while the second shows how former South African winger Ashwin Willemse escaped Cape Town's gang culture.

The ads will run online and on TV in the UK and Ireland. Two short documentaries on the players have also been released.

Diageo sponsors the England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland rugby teams through Guinness.
