Diageo has continued its moves to streamline parts of its global operations with the revamp of its business in Great Britain.

The UK drinks giant announced today (18 July) that, with immediate effect, a single managing director would head its Diageo GB arm. The company had previously worked with two managing directors, one each in charge of Diageo's presence in the off- and on-trade.

Benet Slay (pictured) has taken the helm, moving from his role as joint MD where he was in charge of Diageo's presence in the off-trade. He also was responsible for Diageo's wine business in Europe and the company's sales agenda across Europe.

Slay had worked alongside Jim Young, who was in charge of Diageo GB's on-trade presence. The company's switch to having a single managing director has meant that Young will leave his post and will "take on a senior management role elsewhere in Diageo", the company said.

The announcement comes just days after Diageo revealed it was streamlining its business in continental Europe. The company said it was merging its hubs in northern and southern Europe to create a new operating unit called Continental Europe. Diageo said markets in Iberia and Russia would not be covered by the new organisation.
