Greg Kryder, who assumed the position in 2012, is leaving the company next month "to pursue other career interests", Diageo said late yesterday. Replacing him will be Jakob Ripshtein, the current head of Diageo Canada.

Ripshtein, who will hold both positions concurrently, will continue to report in to Deirdre Mahlan, group president for North America.

"During his tenure leading our Canada business, Jakob has overseen the successful transformation to a broker model, delivering strong business results … during a period of significant change," said Mahlan. "I'd also like to thank Greg for his many contributions to Diageo over the last 14 years."

At the company's Capital Markets Day in New York last month, Mahlan admitted that Diageo had failed to keep pace with spirits growth in the US.
