Diageo is offering cash investments for the scheme

A Diageo-backed entrepreneur initiative is to double its intake next year as it expands a global search for promising spirits start-ups.

Distill Ventures' 'Seed Programme', which sees Diageo offer cash funding of up to GBP175,000 (US$291,000) to successful applicants, will have ten places available for 2015, the initiative said today. Five entrepreneurs were enrolled in the inaugural class last year.

Shilen Patel, Distill Ventures’ CEO, said: “Over the past year we’ve met so many exciting businesses, and it’s great that we can now assist more of them with the funding and expertise to help them grow.”

As well as the cash investment, the seed programme gives spirits start-ups access to spirits industry experts in design, liquid and business strategy.

The deadline for entries is 14 September and candidates should click here to register.
