The group's Asia-Pacific unit, based out of Singapore, said earlier today that Azmar Sukandar has assumed the position. Sukandar joins Diageo from non-profit organisation The Nature Conservancy, where she was director of strategic communications & marketing in the region.

Sukandar has also previously worked for the Financial Times as well as Time and Fortune magazines, having also spent time with Microsoft's MSN division.

When contacted by just-drinks, a spokesperson for Diageo Asia-Pacific confirmed the post has been newly-created. "This is … part of the simplification of the global corporate relations structure, where the creation of new senior roles will help ... drive Diageo's campaigns across regions, including Asia-Pacific," the spokesperson added.

Sukandar will report in to Sam Fischer, group president of Asia-Pacific & Greater China, and Paul Kelleher, corporate relations director for the division.

Earlier this week, former Diageo CEO Paul Walsh reappeared on the spirits scene, joining Brockmans Gin as a board member.
